Perhaps the best one of your submissions - suggestion, open the shadows on the logs - GREAT wildlife story - I wish you would provide more narrative with your images - I'd be curious about this one and how/why you framed as you did - nice job on this Deborah   Posted: 10/07/2026 23:46:05
Thank you for your input and I cropped since I felt more log would not add to the story. Why do you think I should lighten the logs? And shouldn't the images stand in their own without the narrative? I am happy to provide any additional information you want.   Posted: 10/08/2026 00:43:40
When I look at the logs they hold my eye because the darker parts lack detail - when a frame like that (the logs) aren't immediately apparent subconsciously the viewer wonders what's there and it keeps the eye a tad longer than you want.   Posted: 10/08/2026 01:13:24
So lighten the upper log?   Posted: 10/08/2026 01:38:23
Deborah this is a great photograph. Getting the eyes of the prey with birds feeding is always a challange, and helps make the shot. There is a lot of details going on in this shot with the textured logs framing the bird - prey - chick. I cropped and darkened the log to see if how it would look focused more on the feeding action.   Posted: 10/14/2026 18:26:39

Great behavioral capture and very effective framing. I think Roy's close in crop has some merit. The blue patch around the adult's mouth is more apparent as are the details on the chick and the prey. However, both images have their merits. Excellent.   Posted: 10/16/2026 19:42:48
Great moment Deborah! I don't agree with Roy's crop version. I like the original picture. If you really want to cut something from the picture, then you should cut from both birds in equal proportions. What matters is in the middle of the picture.   Posted: 10/25/2026 16:15:08
