About the Image(s)
Camera Nikon p1000
1/400 f8 ISO 100
I took this image when we were in Brookings Oregon the summer of 24. I liked the composition because it looks like the kite is putting on an airshow for the birds.
I cropped to get rid of the blurry foreground, Ran it through Topaz. I tried to bring out the midtones. With a curves layer however I felt I needed to make the reds and midtones pop..

This is a really interesting shot Darcy! I like how you framed the kite between the opening of the rocks and above the ocean line. Minor nit, from my perspective, I'm wanting to see a tiny bit more room on the right by the kite tail.
Curious, what lens were you shooting with?   Posted: 10/17/2026 15:59:31

I think this snapped probably a second before the perfect position. The Nikon P100 is a bridge camera with no changeable lens. The I'm losing the word when it takes multiple shots that option is not good in the camera.   Posted: 10/19/2026 05:03:15

The kite is an interesting focal point. Overall the processing is good. In terms of a landscape I think a bit wider shot would have been better to shop the landscape. So the question would be if the intention is to show the kite or is it to show the landscape with a kite in it as focal point. Just something to ponder. Nope the horizon is on an upward slope thanks. I really wanted to focus on the kite and the birds. I think if I would have zoomed out, I would have missed the birds being more noticeable.   Posted: 10/19/2026 05:06:01

I like the composition and interest you have created with the kite and the color contrast created by its long red tail. I think you did a good job with the technical aspects, especially considering the detail you have in the photo.
For my taste I'd like to see a bit more exposure. I agree with Francois in that I think it would have helped if you were able to include more of the scene on the right side.   Posted: 10/18/2026 20:06:00
