About the Image(s)

My wife and I were driving across Oregon to visit our daughter in Idaho on the Central Oregon Highway. This is what a 140 mile continuous stretch of the highway looks like. I thought I would try to capture a sense of the road so I pulled off to take a shot (and I liked the cloud formation off in the distance.).

I did a lot of haze removal and played with the contrast so I could bring out the clouds. I increased the saturation a bit to bring out some more color in what otherwise is a dull landscape.

I took the shot with my Canon R; Canon EF 75-300mm lens at 75mm; aperture f/11; shutter speed 1/800 sec (it was windy); ISO 100.

NOTE: I couldn't resist playing with my new toy - my infrared modified Canon RP camera. Original 2 is the shot I took with the IR camera. I liked what I got when, in post processing, I swapped the red and blue color channels. I'm interested in your opinions.

Roadtrip. It looks like it is on a cloudy day and close to night time. I think the colors are spot on   Posted: 10/06/2026 10:50:47

I always like it when I see road shots and try to take some of my own and never get them to my liking. I like this one Ed! The framing of the golden grass with the gravel and then the road leading toward the distance is really nice. I like how you processed it as well. I think you increased the saturation just enough in my opinion.

As for the IR, that is really cool! Kind of alien like   Posted: 10/17/2026 16:04:34

I looked at the final image and something felt strange. When I looked at you original images and description I realised it was the effect of the Infrared part. It is very evident in the clouds. It is very cool and definitely give an interesting effect to the photo. I love the effect. Well done.   Posted: 10/21/2026 16:52:43
