About the Image(s)

While on vacation this August, kicking around the lagoon in Oak Bluffs Massachusetts, looking for a photographic capture, this young woman allowed me to take a picture of her “taking a picture” as she shoved away from shore. What a smile!

Specs:
Camera: EOS R5 lens: RF 100-400 f 5.6-8.0 IS USM
hand held AV priority f/11 SS 1/125, focal length 100
Monochrome conversion in Affinity Photo

Indeed, a compelling portrait. Interestingly enough, the only "distraction" in the picture - the handle, is telling the entire story of the water and kayak. Very nice !!   Posted: 10/07/2026 11:30:05

Interesting photo. Only thing I would change is maybe a bit more contrast. I do like the B & W better than the color photo!   Posted: 10/09/2026 17:02:29

Thank you, Sheila.
I agree, a bit more contrast is needed.   Posted: 10/15/2026 22:23:53

I like the way the woman's arms and shoulders create a triangular frame around her smiling lower face and phone.
The pose is natural and relaxed, conveying a carefree, active energy.
The layered bracelets and watch catch highlights nicely in black and white.

One suggestion.
I find the handle in the left corner too distracting and would crop it out.   Posted: 10/16/2026 16:43:16

Like previous comments, I would also delete the handle and go a little further by eliminating the bow of the kayak altogether. This would eliminate all distractions.   Posted: 10/16/2026 18:52:54
