Flower and Bee by Dean Ginther

October 2026 - Flower and Bee

About the Image(s)

A couple of weeks ago I was walking around the nearby village/town and came upon a small garden area. I only had my phone (Pixel) with me. I put it in portrait mode and took several images of the bees and flowers.
In some ways, taking macro flower images is easier with my phone than my camera. I can get closer, manipulate the phone more easily, and the image quality is surprisingly good due to some electronic post processing magic. I copied the images over to Lightroom (LR), cropped, denoised, and performed minor edits. The colors were a bit vivid right out of the camera, so I desaturated slightly.

I know what you mean regarding using the phone for macro. I have done the same. I really like the detail in the bee   Posted: 10/10/2026 04:11:53

This is a very nice photo. I love the translucency (sp?) of the wings.   Posted: 10/11/2026 00:26:59

The bee is perfectly sharp and well placed in the frame. Who needs a fancy camera when you can get this detail with a cell phone. The best camera to use is always the one with you at the time!   Posted: 10/12/2026 15:39:04

Hi Dean,
I agree with you re quality of images one can capture nowadays with the improved cell phone cameras.
I normally capture in "RAW" for more latitude in processing.
In my opinion, traditional cameras, especially the new ones with computerized modes, are still much better for bird photography and macro.
On my last leisure trip, I took only my cell phone as a camera - mainly portraits and landscapes.   Posted: 10/16/2026 15:45:03

Agreed, I am not going to get rid of my 35mm anytime soon but no longer carry a second smaller camera (other than my phone).   Posted: 10/16/2026 21:35:45

This is a lovely photo. What type of phone is it? The clarity is really nice. I think that the detail you got is really nice and your composition is strong. I don't think I would change anything.   Posted: 10/16/2026 16:00:16
