About the Image(s)
This is from my first photo walk with my new Canon R6 Mk11 body. I’d accidentally locked the settings & could only shoot in P or auto mode. Once I was back in reception I was able to sort it out but it’s a big learning curve.
This is the bark from a gum tree.

Figuring out a new camera takes a while. Cameras have so many options and choices nowdays with esoteric menu descriptions. I like the texture and vertical lines of the bark. I don't think I have ever seen a gum tree.   Posted: 10/08/2026 16:25:48
Thanks Dean. It is a work in progress. I'm discovering new things most shoots.
As for gum trees- they are so common over here. In dry conditions they will drop their bark. I may have to find a scribbly gum for you :)   Posted: 10/10/2026 04:06:22

Congratulations on your new camera. We look forward to seeing great images in the future.
This is more of a pattern shot than a nature image.

Granted. I wanted to post something recent. Will be more nature next time even if it is a sparrow :)   Posted: 10/14/2026 23:15:58
I am still trying to figure out my camera that I have had for about 2 years. Shoot as often as you can and make all the mistakes you want because then you (hopefully) won't make it again. A heavy vignette and some masking to simulate side lighting with some dodging and burning will bring out more details on the surface.   Posted: 10/13/2026 22:45:33
Thanks. The camera has functions that I may never use unless I push myself past my limits.   Posted: 10/14/2026 23:15:04
Hi Diane,
I agree with the above comments.
I would suggest to get a book dedicated for this camera (not from Canon) by a pro. Then go chapter by chapter... Takes time, but this is worth it.
In respect to your image, I found the top portion a little blurry. I would suggest to crop it out.

Thanks. I have ordered a paper manual plus a guidebook. So I'll have fun playing & learning   Posted: 10/20/2026 21:44:42
I think this a nice image a good way to figure out how the camera works. I think that the lighting is interesting based on the shifting shading but I do agree that it looks a little blurry at the top. I am excited to see the new photos from the camera.   Posted: 10/16/2026 16:31:48
