Hello Kathy. The lone figure staring down the path, and into the more well lit distance as he morns the fallen is well seen!
I'm not sure what aperture was used, possibly f8+. I would be interested to see what could be done with a fast lens, giving a drop-off in focus a we proceed down the path to the light and further isolating the soldier morning his fallen comrade.
All in all a nice contemplative image.   Posted: 10/09/2026 17:35:32

I like this photo very much. You have nice tonal values and there is still detail in the dark shadows on the statue. Good exposure and focus. I do find my eye jumping back and forth between the statue and tree on the right. I tried cropping it out. You lose most of the path though if you think that is important to your story.   Posted: 10/11/2026 18:16:36
Kathy, I agree with both Charles and Cindy's comments about the light, the noticeable detail you have captured in the statue. I think that your shooting the soldier from the back does give the image a contemplative feel. I like Cindy's crop of the tree on the right (although the image seems to have disappeared from my view of her post) works well to give balance to the composition but, as she said, the framing would be your choice, depending on your intention.   Posted: 10/13/2026 02:29:58
I agree that a shallower depth of field would be interesting...I would also like to see the entire monument in the image ....the cutting out of some of the inscriptions makes me want to know more......what would be in the background if the shot was taken from the 'front' of the monument   Posted: 10/17/2026 16:20:26
