Shot this from the Pismo Beach pier on Central Coast of Calif. Watched several surfers and their routes around the pier. I was most intrigued when they were framed by a wall of water and the spray patterns and textures of the blue- green water. After, I got the shot I wanted, I didn't realize there was a surfer (I think they were sitting on a board obscured by the ocean spray. I left it in after Snapseed editing. I liked the optical illusion of this cloudy figure that appeared to be hovering above the wave and silhouetted in the mid ground.

The layer of water framing the main surfer worked out nicely. I think the second surfer on the board adds a little to the image interest. Not sure you could have done much with the main surfer, wearing a very dark outfit. The rest of the exposure looks good and the increasing the shadow slider might not do much.   Posted: 10/09/2026 23:46:31

Wayne,
Love the moment that you captured! You've frozen the action so we can enjoy the surfer and the wave and water spray. Great stuff! I'd like to see more water in front of the board. I'd also suggest opening up the shadows on the surfer. He's awfully dark. The second surfer is a bit distracting.   Posted: 10/16/2026 21:14:00

Thanks, wish I allowed more room in the front of the surfboard. However, there might have been another bright board
in the path of the surfer.Just can't recall.   Posted: 10/26/2026 06:53:33

The surfer looks like he is moving out of the photo rather than into the photo. You could crop out the left half of the photo turning this into a vertical photo.   Posted: 10/23/2026 16:25:10

This is a really interesting photo. I like the water framing the surfer. The second surfer I found to be a bit distracting but it definitely adds contrast and context to the main surfer. I like the colors as well. Well done.   Posted: 10/23/2026 18:40:26

This is an interesting photo and I don't mind the second surfer in the shot. The guy on the board might be crowding the edge a little but there probably was no more room in the photo to give it some distance. On the wave in the front maybe use a gradient to try ing lighten the waves a little I think this might give the image a little more pop.   Posted: 10/25/2026 20:53:15
