About the Image(s)
Why I chose this image: “Remember"
This is a cloth mural of the Western Wall in Jerusalem, that was hung in a small garden outside of the oldest Synagogue in Tbilisi, Georgia. This scene tells me a story about remembrance through the ages, persistence of memory, refusal to let go both of faith and memory in spite all that others have tried to do over the last 2 millennia.
Taken with a Nikon D810, Nikkor 28-300 lens, processed with both Lightroom and Photoshop 26.

Ed, this is an image that touches the soul. I like the way you let it tell its story. The folds of the cloth and the top show that it is a dream made of canvas, and the fence with the symbols tells the rest. At first, I thought that you might have more contrast there, but then I realized that the subtle approach is just right.

Thanks Kirsti. One reason it caught my eye was that I was able to go to Jerusalem 2011 and visit the wall. It does tell a story in many ways. I actually backed off on the contrast to be more subtle so your understanding was spot on regarding my intention   Posted: 10/11/2026 20:17:55
Ed, I'm amazed at how many of your photos are related to history and the impact they make on the viewer, and this one is no exception. The uniform contrast between the "live" scene and the mural works very well. The only area I struggled with a bit if the large foreground tree - the lack of contrast between it and the rest of the photo mainly, but I too see what you were trying to accomplish and I think you did so very effectively.
Thanks for sharing another great photo.

FordThank you, Robert. I understand what you say about the tree, but I think if I remember correctly, it is an olive tree and as such it in itself is a symbol of the nation of Israel as well, and that is the main reason I kept it. I believe it complements the mural hanging. Thank you very much for your thoughts.   Posted: 10/13/2026 02:50:27
Hi Ed- Kirsti's comment resonated with me; my first impression was that I was looking at something whimsical, Alice in Wonderland-like with the surreal mixture of textures that don't seem to go together. As I looked closer, the details of the mural in the ironwork come to life and the whimsical turns to symbolic.
The low contrast does a nice job to blend the textures and to enhance the drapey feel of the cloth. Wonderful image -   Posted: 10/17/2026 19:39:39
