About the Image(s)

I must sound a bit morbid, but I like to wander around a cemetery every now and then, particularly with an IR camera. This image was taken at "Rookwood", one of the larger cemeteries in Sydney, if not the largest. I particularly like the oldest historical section, where the management have posted signs around stating they are letting the natural vegetation to regrow and come back, resulting in headstones being found scattered between trees, long grass and even wild flowers when they are in season. But this particular image is not one of those, maybe in the coming months. Details are: Nikon D200; Nikon 63mm; ISO 100; F8 and 1/250.

I enjoy old cemeteries as well. Your diagonal is a great contrast to the geometric angle of the cross and the upright figure.   Posted: 10/04/2026 21:40:16

Thanks for your comments Debbie. This location works well in both IR and "normal" colour.   Posted: 10/24/2026 07:01:53

I think the white foliage of the IR is a nice contrast to the sculpture. Good choice! I always feel a bit conflicted about images from cemeteries that don't have the person's name or do have the person's name on them. Someone has a family that is still part of this person's life and history.   Posted: 10/20/2026 00:27:26

Thanks for your comments Lauren. I completely hear what you say. I am for ever conscious about treading or stepping on people, even if they have been paying for more than 100 years. You just do not tread on anyone.   Posted: 10/24/2026 07:04:07
