About the Image(s)

DATA: Nikon D700 with Nikon 24-120 @ 85mm --- hand held --- ISO 200 --- 1/250 @ f/11 --- hazy sun --- post processed in Elements.

MAKER'S COMMENTS: Photographed at a local car show. At many car shows the background is a problem, so just blacked out the background so it would not be a distraction from the interesting street rod. I rebuilt the left back fender as the driver's door was wide open and thought the open door ruined the scene.

Hi Murphy,
I love shooting old cars and this one is a beauty! I applaud your attempt at removing the distracting background. Having the car floating in the void is interesting, but maybe preserving some of the ground and shadow might have been a bit more satisfying. As to the fender replacement, it doesn't quite match. One approach might be to make a copy of the right fender, flip it sideways and copy on the other side. You'd probably want to remove the big reflection, but it would look more authentic.   Posted: 10/14/2026 16:31:02

Hi Murphy:Perfect exposure for a black car with chrome suspension. I agree with Henry on the fender. The angle of view serves the car right and you've got all the detail in the tires. You did a nice job of cutting out the car and placing on the black background. Very nice.   Posted: 10/14/2026 16:37:37

Hi Henry and Charles: This street rod was a challenge to post process.
Some cold winter rainy day I will do more work to this image, will try to lighten the foreground so the front wheels have something to rest on. Then will work on the left fender to see if I can make it look a little more realistic.

Thanks guys for the advice...   Posted: 10/15/2026 02:57:55
