Abandoned Gas Station by Marcus Miller

October 2026 - Abandoned Gas Station

About the Image(s)

When I took this image, I planned to turn it black and white to emphasize the leading lines, but in the end decided to desaturate it slightly to enhance the feeling of decay.

What a rich, classic image! I agree that the partial desaturation enhances the feeling of abandonment and decay. The shuttered windows and overgrown shrubbery tell the same story.   Posted: 10/18/2026 13:39:44

A fine historical record - the desaturation works well.   Posted: 10/20/2026 16:01:35

Feels authentic. Probably desaturation did the tirck. The brickwork, peeling surfaces, rusty pumps, and worn wood provide rich textures and they support the theme of aging and decay.   Posted: 10/22/2026 18:59:11

Really interesting! Good choice to desaturate. The wires, awning, and gas pumps work well together. It looks abandoned. Nice work.

Nice find, and I agree with you and everyone else about how the desaturation works well here. The one thing that strikes me as a bit off is the sky. The strong deep shadows suggest a bright sky, so the grey sky, as much as it reinforces the feeling of abandonment, seems just a bit incongruous to me.   Posted: 10/25/2026 02:23:01

Good comment. I was never totally sastified with sky but couldn't see what was wrong. I made it an abandoned sky. Thanks Ken.   Posted: 10/26/2026 12:29:31
