About the Image(s)
This was taken a couple of years ago while drive down the Blue Ridge Parkway. I like the contrast between the men and the green water, and their reflection. The darker water in the center behind the men is natural and I think is good. I don't know if it hurts or helps the image that one of the men is gaunt. Taken with my Olympus camera and 14-150mm lens at 150mm, 1/250th second, f8, and ISO 200.

Colors are pleasing and the scene is restful. It would help if the man in the back were fishing off your side of the boat. I can't tell if it is a sinker of a small fish on his line. Also, if the man in the front did not look so bored. I would probably crop some off the left.   Posted: 10/08/2026 20:14:54
Was the boat moving? If not, you could have tried a long exposure, let's say 4-5s.The posture of the gaunt man seems a bit funny. Could have been better.   Posted: 10/12/2026 15:39:15
Hi Tom,
Good candid scene. A couple of things come to mind. It would have helped if you had gone down a little to provide an "eye-level" view rather than this "top-down" that we see. Perhaps it was not possible. Whilst the reflection in the foreground is good, the background is mostly empty water... a little more cropping would have highlighted the subjects more. The rear fisherman's face is almost in the dark...a bit of brightening would have helped. I have tried correcting the horizontal tilt and reprocessed the image. Hope it helps.   Posted: 10/13/2026 14:32:40

Tom,
I think this is a lovely image portraying a very relaxing time on the water for these two men on a sunny day. The expanse of water around the boat is well portrayed in my view... I assume you chose to not include the shore to give that impression. Looks like the boat is drifting slowly backwards, maybe with a gentle breeze.
I don't agree with Hoshedar's horizontal correction....Given the weight difference between the two men I'd expect the stern of the punt to be deeper in the water than the bow .......the only horizontal line here should be the interface between the hull and the water.....your image reflects that correctly in my opinion.   Posted: 10/17/2026 14:58:38

Thanks, the bank was too far back to include, but I like it better without the bank anyway. The boat was anchored and the river was flowing past it.   Posted: 10/17/2026 15:20:02
Pleasant scene, 2 guys enjoying peace and quiet, nicely shot. I'm not sure whether it matters that one is 'gaunt' (good word that!) though it is very obvious when one looks at the photo: but it is what it is so there we go! I was unsure about the expanse of water but failed to find a better crop.   Posted: 10/27/2026 09:08:29
